What is Heavenly Virtue Noble?

It's like a bonus star everybody wants to have in their bazi charts. When there is a Heavenly Virtue Noble (HVN) star in the natal chart, the lucky owner is easier to gain favors from the Heavens. Ideally, the star should be positive and the effect can be felt when the HVN star appears again in the luck pillar, year, month or day. The best is when it appears in the luck pillar because it will last for 10 years and even better if it also represents your positive wealth star. If it appears during the bad luck pillar, year, month or day, it can help to reduce the negative impact.

The question now is how do we identify our Heavenly Virtue Noble stars?

I'm not going to give you a table to memorize but will guide you on how to find the HVN star without hurting your brains. The HVN star is derived from the month earthly branch.

For the months of zi, mao, wu and you, just add on 5 animals.

Since zi is the 1st animal, then si being the 6th animal is the HVN star, just like the chart above.

Mao is the 4th animal, then shen being the 9th animal is the HVN star.

Wu horse is the 7th animal, then hai being the 12th animal is the HVN star.

You rooster is the 10th animal, after adding 5, we have 15. I think you should know that the 15th animal is equivalent to the 3rd animal because there are only 12 animals. So, yin tiger is the HVN star.

As for all the other animals, the formula is based on the 3 combo.

Let's begin with the chou month. Chou is part of the si-you-chou metal frame. The metal star that can be found inside chou is xin. The other metal star geng is the HVN star. The geng must be in the stems of the natal chart including the day stem. The geng inside shen will not be considered as the HVN star.

Yin tiger is part of the yin-wu-xu fire frame. The fire star that can be found inside yin tiger is bing. The other fire star ding is the HVN star.

Chen is part of the shen-zi-chen water frame. The water star that can be found inside chen is gui. The other water star ren is the HVN star.

Si is part of the si-you-chou metal frame. The metal star that can be found inside si is geng. So, the other metal star xin is the HVN star.

If you have understood the above formula, I'm sure you can find the HVN stars for the months of wei, shen, xu and hai. Please try before scrolling down for the answers.

Wei is part of the hai-mao-wei wood frame. The wood star inside wei is yi. So, jia is the HVN star.

Shen is part of the shen-zi-chen water frame. The water star inside shen is ren. So, gui is the HVN star.

Xu is part of the yin-wu xu fire frame. The fire star inside xu is ding. So, bing is the HVN star.

Lastly, hai is part of the hai-mao-wei wood frame. The wood star inside hai is jia. So, yi is the HVN star.

Hi Lwee,

Just to clarify that -
if our HVN is not found in our natal charts but only appears in the LP, then would it qualify and its positive effects felt within that particular LP?

If our natal chart doesn't contain a HVN star but if it is found in our spouse, close friends or our children's charts, does it mean they can be our helpful people?

Tqvm for giving us so much invaluable insights of BaZi.

Hi Penny,

It must be in the natal chart. The effect can be felt when it appears again in the luck pillar, year, month, day or even during the hour pillars. So, it's really an advantage to have the HVN star in our natal charts. In short, it's good karma to have one but it doesn't mean that it will over ride the rest of the chart. It's just a bonus and sometimes the bonus can be quite substantial.

Does the location of the HVN tell us anything about where help would come from?

Does the relationship of the day master to the HVN tell us anything about the form that help may take, for example, if an element negative to the day master is HVN, does the HVN represent a person who's help comes in the form of an unpleasant experience that in hindsight is good or does that negative relationship mean that the HVN becomes negative in outcome?

Hi Charlotte,

It doesn't matter where it is located and the Heavens can reward us through any means. If the HVN star is a negative star in the natal chart, the negative effect can be reduced. I will be sharing some cases on this subject soon, especially the positive ones.

Hi Lwee, if the HVN isn't in the chart means even your 10 year luck appears the HVN. It is of no use? Say for example,
Wu horse is the 7th animal, then hai being the 12th animal is the HVN star.

There's the wu horse in the chart, however the 10 year luck pillar has the hai. Does that qualify?

Hi Polly,

The HVN star has to be in the natal chart first and it is activated when it appears again.

Please bear in mind that the HVN star is formulated from the month branch. In your case, if the month branch is wu horse, then the HVN star is hai and hai has to be found in the year, day or hour branch.

I am re-reading this.

You say that for Zi we go 6 on to Si. Am to then take it that Bing, Si's main Qi is the HVN for Zi, or do I treat Zi as if it were the same as Si and use Xin?

This rule for finding HVN for those born in peach blossom month is the only part that is ambiguous to me. Please can you clarify?

Hi Charlotte,

The HVN star for the peach blossom stars are animals and for the rest are stems. So, the HVN star for zi is si, not bing.

Hi tat fu yuen,

Only geng in the stems qualify as your HVN star. Geng inside si does not represent your HVN star. HVN star is just a bonus. So, we don't have to put too much stress on it.

Hi,
I have Jia Chen (year pillar), Ren Shen (month pillar) and Ren Zi (day pillar), so my HVN star is Gui. Since Ren Zi is sitting on Gui in the hidden stem in the pillar, does this count as I have the HVN star? Thank you very much for your answer.

No, the Gui must be in the heavenly steam.

Thank you, Alex. If the Gui annual year pillar for example comes in 2023, does it counts that I will have the HVN for that particular year?

It is my intention in this blog to share my BaZi knowledge through case studies using mostly the ZiPing technical method. This technical method stresses on the production and the destruction cycles of the 5 elements namely wood, fire, earth, metal and water. However, in July 2016, I have decided to include the classical method as I believe that the correct approach towards BaZi is to blend both these methods.
