When he was 15 years old, he formally became a Buddhist under Venerable Chang Zhi. At the age of 19, his mother passed away and he built a hut by her grave and observed the practice of filial piety there. One day in the hut, he had a vision of the Sixth Patriarch, Zen Master Hui Neng who came and told him that he will go to the West in the future to preach to a great number of people there.
In acceptance of his destiny, Master Hsuan Hua finally set out to the United States of America in 1962 and during his many years there, he founded
1. the Dharma Realm Buddhist Association,
2. the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas in California which was one of the first Zen monasteries in America,
3. the Dharma Realm Buddhist University which was one of the first American Buddhist colleges and
4. the Buddhist Text Translation Society which helps in the translation of Buddhist scriptures from Chinese into English, Spanish and many other languages.
I have chosen xin-you as his hour pillar to make this chart a very powerful cai-guan-yin chart. Strong fire producing strong earth; strong earth producing strong metal; and strong metal producing weak gui DM.
However, this chart belonged to a very great spiritual master not because it was a cai-guan-yin chart but because of the gui-si and bing-chen pillars. With gui as his DM and having both bing and gui in the stems, Master Hsuan Hua has very strong affinity with the Heavens. Bing-chen pillar made him a very kind and compassionate person while the gui-si pillar gave him the ability to see things in great depth. These two pillars made him a true and a great spiritual master.
Reading by pillars gives us another layer of information which sometimes are the important ones. This is the part where the strength of the DM is not important. Unfortunately, many bazi students got confused and thought that the strength of DM is not important at all.
Master Hsuan Hua's chart has strongly rooted positive DO stars which gave him the ability to live by the strict rules and precepts. On top of that, he made 18 great vows and he was a lifetime vegetarian who ate only one meal a day. Such was his great discipline.
People with strong IR stars have better 6th sense and this is another reason why I have chosen xin-you as his hour pillar. Master Hsuan Hua was known to have psychic powers and he was a mind reader.
In this cai-guan-yin chart, the only negative star is the output wood star. Master Hsuan Hua passed away peacefully in Los Angeles on the 7th of June in 1995 at the age of 77. He was in his jia-zi LP and 1995 was the yi-hai year. Both protruding jia and yi were his negative output wood stars. I think you can guess the reason for his demise with the multiple zi-wu and hai-si clashes. It was mentioned that he passed away due to complications of exhaustion.
