Nowadays, all the bazi charts are easily generated through computer software or the bazi apps. Just for discussion sake, do you know that the hour stem is obtained from the day stem and the hour branch? Some masters will teach you the finger technique but the table formula is the fastest. Let's see how the formula works.
+ 0
+ 2
+ 4
+ 6
+ 8
Jia

Example 2
From the table, for bing day stem, add 4 to wei which is the 8th animal. 4 + 8 = 12. There are only 10 stems. The 12th stem = 2nd stem which is yi.

The early rat between 0000 hours - 0059 hours is considered as the 1st animal while the late rat between 2300 hours - 2359 hours is considered as the 13th animal because it comes after the hai pig which is the 12th animal.

Example 3 - Early rat hour
From the table, for xin day stem, add 4 to zi which is the 1st animal for early rat. 4 + 1 = 5. The 5th stem is wu earth.

Example 4 - Late rat hour
From the table, for ren day stem, add 6 to zi which is the 13th animal for late rat. 6 + 13 = 19. The 19th stem = 9th stem which is ren.

It's not difficult to commit the table to memory. With this simple formula, you can find the hour stem in less than 10 seconds.

Hi Master,

Hi Master,
How about the formula on which animal should be in the earth branch of the hour pillar when the hour of birth is not specified in the birth certificate? Thank you Master for your generosity for sharing your skills in bazi with us.

Hi bogie,

There is no formula to find the time of birth if it is unknown.

It is my intention in this blog to share my BaZi knowledge through case studies using mostly the ZiPing technical method. This technical method stresses on the production and the destruction cycles of the 5 elements namely wood, fire, earth, metal and water. However, in July 2016, I have decided to include the classical method as I believe that the correct approach towards BaZi is to blend both these methods.
